Discussion with my wife about meditation :
Meditation is not something we do easily. Although day dreaming or visualization is a form of meditation, it is not the method I or Christ is speaking of in this lesson. We will touch on some natural forms of meditation, but will focus mainly on Christ. Meditation Jesus Christ's way is a deliberate act.
Meditation is the act of:
- Controlling your thoughts
- Emotions (negative or postive).
- Emptying your thoughts
- Controlling your mental or physical emotions.
- Controlling or redirecting pain.
- Bringing the natural senses under subjection and many other things.
Unbelievers and meditation
The unbeliever who meditates learn to cast their thoughts to another physical object. The object doesn't necessarily change because they do. But the act of doing so frees the mind.
Here is a list of other things people who meditate casts too:
- Following the breath.
- A candle flame.
- Blades of grass
When I was a kid
When I was a kid in the 60's and 70's I taught myself to meditate (before salvation I was into martial arts) using blades of grass. I had gotten so good a meditation that I could jump 4 foot fences without a running start, that is standing directly in front of the fence. I weighed 115lbs but could bench press 275lbs - through meditation. When I got filled with the Holy Ghost it was discouraged by clergy and my friends, despite reading it in the scriptures. So I abandoned the idea, except meditation came in handy at times when pressures were too great. Like when I live homeless on the streets of Detroit during the winter time or when I didn't have money to catch the bus from work so I jumped a freight train, not realizing that I had to get off. I did, but my back was carved up by the rocks when I jumped off the train and rolled in the rocks. My shirt was socked with blood. The sweat from the 90 degree tempters burned my back. I had an additional 5 miles to walk home in pain. Meditation helped me deal with that pain.
The Lord spoke to me and said he would heal me if I obeyed him. I did and in 3 days no scars existed. But during those three days I had to wear three shirts because of the amount of blood soaking through my clothes. In order to get the last shirt off, I had to soak in the tub. The Lord directed me to put anointing oil in the tub and pray. I did and the wombs from my hands, across my arm, shoulders, head and back were all healed.
The child of God whose birth is from above casts on Jesus Christ. I will show you how later; but lets get some proof and knowledge in you.
Proof & Practice
Meditation can be challenging, but you can learn how.
- Find a room where there is complete silence.
- This exercise will last for 60 seconds. Set your alarm.
- Find a comfortable sitting or laying position.
- I want you to empty your thoughts. Otherwise don't think.
- When ready start your alarm, close your eyes and empty your thoughts for 60 seconds.
How did you do?
Were you able to only think about nothing?
Here in lies the problem with saints. If you are unable to silence your thoughts, more importantly control what you think, then it is impossible to Christ to get through all that thinking you do in order to teach you a different way of living, thinking, acting and etc.
If you've done meditation before and maybe not in a long time you've probably did better than most. If you've never attempted to deliberately meditate (day dreaming doesn't count) you will have lots of challenges.
Meditation Christ's way
Meditating Jesus Christ's way is called casting. Jesus says, to cast all your cares on Him and learn of Him. Which signifies something important. Let's look at the scriptures. As we read the scriptures that follow think about meditation and your recent experience doing the exercises.
Mat 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Mat 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
